We will look at the differences between general-purpose and discipline-specific repositories—and how to choose the right one for your research. Talk about licensing, access, and potential costs associated with data deposit and reuse and best practices for ensuring your data remains FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable).

This workshop is ideal for researchers and PGR’s who want to maximise the visibility and impact of their research data.

Recruitment and Selection with Hireserve

This session is part of the LJMU LEAD Programme – Leadership Enhancement and Development but is for all staff who are to take part in any recruitment and selection of staff at LJMU.

We recognise that our employees are our greatest asset and ensuring that our recruiting managers follow the university's recruitment and selection policy is essential in attracting and retaining the right staff. Getting it wrong can have a lasting impact on the business and the individual leading to problems with staff morale and absence.


This session is aimed at taking recruiters through the recruitment and selection process including:

1. How to use the hiring manager self-service portal (Hireserve) from advertising through to offer

2. Producing a job description and person specification

3. Advertising the position

4. Carrying out a fair selection process at both shortlist and interview, gathering accurate information, interpreting information, and making decisions

5. Equal opportunities, dealing with subjectivity, diversity and good practice

6. Interviewing skills including preparing questions, questioning techniques and structuring the interview

Panopto is LJMU’s institutional video recording and management system, that greatly simplifies the process of media creation and sharing through an easy to use set of tools and secure integration into Canvas course spaces. Panopto can be used for a number of applications including sharing of short video messages by tutors, recorded lab demonstrations, narrated PowerPoints, live broadcasts, student presentations, video assignments and lecture capture. Video allows staff to support diverse student needs and rethink how programmes are delivered such as ‘flipped’ teaching and broadening the range of ways that students engage with their learning. Additional parts of the system allow built-in quizzing, captioning and group notetaking.
