EndNote Online

Do you want to learn how to manage your references effectively when researching and save time when writing up your assignment? Try using the EndNote Online referencing tool.

This session will show you how to:

     
• Create an EndNote Online account;  
     
• Add references from Discover and Databases
     
• Produce a reference list in your chosen style
 

It will include live demonstrations of EndNote Online, explain its features and how to Cite While You Write in Word.

Please note - to get the most out of EndNote Online you should have a good understanding of the referencing style that you will be using in your assignments, for example Harvard. You may want to attend an Introduction to Referencing session first.  

There will be opportunities to ask questions throughout the session.

Referencing

What is referencing and why do I have to do it? This session will refer to the Harvard Cite Them Right style and will:

     
• explain what referencing is
     
• highlight why and when you should reference something in your work
     
• show you how to cite sources in an assignment
     
• show you how to reference a book, a journal article and a webpage in the Harvard Cite Them Right style
     
• how to find additional information for different types of resources.

This session is for students who have previously used the Harvard LJMU referencing style and are transitioning to the Harvard Cite Them Right referencing style. This session will:

• highlight the differences between the two Harvard referencing styles
• show you how to cite sources in an assignment in the Harvard Cite Them Right style
• show you how to reference a book, a journal article and a webpage in the Harvard Cite Them Right style
• show you how to access and search the Cite Them Right database for further help and guidance on referencing

There will be opportunities to ask questions throughout the session.

This is your chance to ask us any questions you’ve got about finding and using information for your assignments, including where to look for good quality information, and when and how to reference correctly.  

Our drop-ins are an opportunity for you to meet with one of our librarians and ask us anything about using the libraries and our subject resources.  

There is no need to book.  Just come along to Aldham Robarts Library, Lower Ground Floor, Seminar Room 3.

Discover: Getting the most out of library resources 

Are you searching on Google and getting overwhelmed with the amount of information you are getting back?  How do you know what you are finding is the right type and quality for your assignment?  

Discover, the library search tool, is the simple way to search for relevant books, e-books, journal articles, databases and more.  

This session will show you how to access a range of resources and make the best use of the features of Discover, including advanced search, saving searches and items and creating search alerts.

So, if you are not sure how or where to start, or if you want to learn how to get better search results then this is the session for you.

EndNote 20 Desktop 

Do you want to learn how to manage your references more effectively using the referencing management software, EndNote 20 Desktop?  

This is a live demo showing you how create your own EndNote Desktop Library and import, edit and manage your references and how you can use EndNote to automatically ‘cite while you write’ in Word.  

EndNote Desktop must be installed on a personal device or LJMU Staff device and you should have a good understanding of the referencing system that you will be using.
